Learning Toughness from Wim “The Iceman” Hof
We are introducing a new format which we call “4 Legs Fitness Practice Note.” These notes cover specific aspects or techniques related to either one or several of the areas of the 4 Legs Fitness concept (as described in our book). We discuss the benefits of the techniques, why they work and how to practically integrate them into your life.
Our first 4 Legs Fitness Practice Note is about how to “Improve your Fitness with Cold Exposure”, which is related to the fourth leg of 4 Legs Fitness: recovery. We describe learning toughness from Wim “The Iceman” Hof, who is an extreme sport athlete and is holding various Guinness World Records. Most of them involve some cold -- some very cold -- experiences like climbing Mount Everest in shorts. This got him the nickname “The Iceman.” He developed the Wim Hof Method (WHM) which is a way to learn how to endure such extreme conditions.
The Wim Hof Method is also an effective way to improve health and strengthen our body. It consists of breathing exercises, concentration, and cold exposure. Especially, regular cold exposure includes a wide range benefits for body and mind.
